OOU CLOSURE - SOCIALIST VS BARR. ODUBELA

On channels tv , The Student union president of Olabisi Onabanjo University, in person of Com. Ifade Segun (Socialist) was intervied about the closure of oou and its reason for protesting, also against him was the commissioner for education in Ogun state Barr. Odubela.

In the interview the OOUSUG president stated the reasons for our last peaceful protest, which was reduction of the school fees to a maximum of @ least N50,000 - N70,000 across board in the institution, Implementation of the reduction this 2013/2014 Academic session, adequate funding of the school, also he talked about the situation @ hand before the school was shut down, that in the last protest the governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun ask the students to give him a week ultimatum so as the government can look into the reduction and make necessary amendment, but unfortunately the ogun state government kept mute during that one week and to the surprised of the students, the governor ordered the shut down of the school which is against the law of the school, as he (Socialist) said that only the governing council has the audacity to shut down the school.

In counter to what Socialist said, the commissioner for education ( Barr. Odubela) was aslo interview via phone call, and he said that the OOU students were being ungrateful, that they never protest before the reduction, but after the reduction, also he said that among 10 Institutions in Ogun state only OOU was against the reduction they made, that the government already made a reduction of 61%, also he also said that the student that came on the last protest damage public properties and injured some people and the cost of all the damages was 5million naira.

Finally, the presenters ask what is the way forward to end the crisis, and the commissioner said that in due and appropriate time, things will be sorted out, he was asked when would that time be, but there was no direct response of the time.
